These statistics are provided by MIND the mental health charity. They refer to employees’ mental health issues as the “elephant in the room” i.e. It is a huge, obvious issue that is being ignored. One of MIND’s campaigns for 2012 focuses on this issue. TV advertisements are being screened to heighten awareness in employees about themselves and about their colleagues.
Mind suggests 5 simple ways to improve understanding of mental health issues at work. They also provide practical help. For example:
- Talk to someone instead of sending an email.
- Speak to someone new.
- Ask how someone’s weekend was and really listen when they tell you.
- Put five minutes aside to find out how someone really is.
- Give a colleague a lift to work or share the journey home with them.
Price & Slater specialise in claims against employers. If your mental health has been damaged because of your work and/or you are not getting the right help and support from them ring us.
Speak to Vicky Price on 0161 615 5554 or fill in the call back request form. You have 3 years to bring your claim so don’t delay.
